Weekly Thoughts #1

Occasionally I think about how nice it would be to just stop thinking for once! However, unless I'm comatose asleep, or doing yoga, it basically never happens. I wanted to collectively key-in some inspiration and thoughts I have throughout the week and post them here. It's cool to share, and also to look back on a timeline of events and thoughts. Sort of like a journal! Anyway, let's get started.(The photo taken above was at Pendleton County. So beautiful!)

It was probably a month ago when one of my good friends Samuel texted me and said, "Do you want to be in the Cincinnati Magazine?"
So Samuel, Cody, Sami and I arrived at Cincinnati's Camp Washington Chili, pretended to laugh, and got our picture in the April 2017 issue of the Cincinnati Magazine!

I remember last Summer at Artworks, one of my friends and coworkers, Hannah, told me that a lot of her painting business was, "painting other peoples' dogs." I never really thought it would happen, but my coworkers have been wanting me to paint their dogs! It's been really successful, and I'm very thankful.

Two things happened yesterday that I wanted to document: One, was my outfit (I was proud, because it was all thrifted):

and two, would be Jeremiah and Michael fixing up Michael's car:

Poor Michael had been hearing this awful loud noise every time he would step on the gas, and we thought it was his transmission. He was driving me to the other side of campus, and we hit a speed bump and heard a loud CLANK. Then we could feel something dragging on the road. He pulled over, and his entire muffler and catalytic converter had rusted off.

He called up Jeremiah (for the second time in two weeks to fix our car troubles on campus...) And about 45 minutes later, with some wire hangers, a couple car jacks, and some of Jeremiah's tools, they managed to use the hanger wire to at least keep the car parts from dragging on the road. Very thankful for friends who are experienced in the rusty-old-cars department!

I am taking a communication theory class right now, and it may be one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. I paired up with my classmate Molly, and we created our own theory called Interpersonal Media Theory--talking about how more relationships are being formed through the process of Social Networking Sites. We put a ton of work into it and we ended up getting a C...I guess we aren't going to become theorists anytime soon...(Pray that we keep our sanity!!)

  Something I don't really tell many people, and it's not because I'm embarrassed or anything--it just doesn't really come up in conversation-- but it's that I just love pop culture. I love staying up to date with who's-wearing-what and when, which celebrity is with another one--if they aren't, the aesthetic, the whole sweatpants-with-heels thing, the makeup, the tabloids, the family histories, the last names, whether someone just started another non-profit, the backstages, the models, fashion weeks, the street style, and I'm not entirely sure why it's so fascinating to me, but it is--and clearly I'm not the only one! Maybe I like it, because it keeps me inspired. I keep telling myself it's not an obsession...maybe just a hobby. (;

Nowadays with social media everywhere, it's not that hard to "stay up to date"!
I think that social media is such a perfect platform for tuning in on the lives of celebrities. None of it is extremely important--if at all, but I don't think why I like it is so much of a cool aspect--sure that may be some of it-- but I think I'm just curious about how rich these people are. I'm left wondering how they live life so extravagantly (or not), and I also think there is some itching for normalcy...With a little bit of, "wow! They wear sweatpants too!"

Speaking of pop culture and inspiration--a couple that inspires me (whether that be through makeup, style, or their aesthetic) has been Nicola Peltz and Anwar Hadid. The picture below was taken by Gigi Hadid for V Magazine, and frankly I'm obsessed.
The colors, the red jacket, her lipstick, his glasses, how they are Polaroids(!!), it's for New York Fashion Week, and Nicola and Anwar are dating. I could go on.
*Sigh*
One could only aspire to take Polaroids like that (at least that's what I'm thinking, lol).

However, what's funny is the fact that Anwar Hadid, (Brother of Gigi Hadid, who is a model basically seen everywhere. Who is the sister of Bella Hadid, who dated The Weeknd??, also children of Yolanda and Mohamed!?) is coming up in the modeling scene, and Nicola Peltz (Actress! But also my style icon!) is becoming more and more popular on Instagram. So this "famous-supermodel's-brother," and "rising-actress-meets-style-icon," have started dating (hopeless romantic), and they are playing up media by posting pictures of their love and romance--can you say dreamy?
But the funny part is, that V Magazine and even Anwar's sister, Gigi, play up this Media Hotspot and play up peoples feelings-and-wants to see more of Anwar and Nicola, and this is making them an item.

They know media wants to see them, so they make them a product for people to buy. Funny right? I am obsessed with this picture, because they have framed it as such, because they know people-like-me are eating this up
What's next? Probably a clothing line. Maybe a lipstick line? Maybe I should buy the Vetements jacket that Nicola is wearing? or the Guess overalls Anwar is wearing?
Maybe that's why pop culture is so fascinating--it's a game, and I'm trying to figure it out. When the pieces fit together, it's like I've solved a puzzle and it's awesome. But again, it's just a hobby...Or maybe just some thoughts.
